Reports to the Estimating Manager; completes and prepares detailed cost estimates that are provided by the Estimating Department. Represent the company during pre-construction services performing value engineering, comparative and alternatives studies. Is responsible for the protection and promotion of the interest of the company in all matters.
|Essential Duties and Responsibilities|
-Conduct quantity take-off and studies for all items incorporated in the project, anticipating details necessary to complete the project.
-Coordinate the work of estimating engineers and assistants.
-Prepare preliminary, conceptual and schematic estimates and studies in detail with minimal information during pre-construction.
-Performs design development and construction document estimates, with the ability to compare and analyze the estimates and detect over-runs, differences and potential problem areas.
-Generates value engineering suggestions and costs associated, as well as reports.
-Develop, update and maintain unit cost figures.
- Participates in constructability reviews by identifying incorrect drawing details as well as un-constructible systems and conflicts which can be shared with the design team.
-Interface with project owners and internal project team, provide timely and accurate reports, represent the company at meetings, etc.
-Interface with subcontractors and suppliers. Evaluate proposals relative to the scope of the work.
-Develop and manage preconstruction schedules
-Perform other duties as assigned.
Four-year college degree in engineering, construction management, building construction or similar is preferable and a minimum of six years of estimating experience. Must have vocabulary of unit prices for all building systems. Must understand detailed components of a building in order to meet conceptual ability to work with minimal information to produce good assumptions to generate accurate construction estimates. Must have experience with Lump Sum Bidding. Experience in project engineering, field supervision or purchasing is desirable. Knowledge of building construction, materials, systems, market conditions and trade practices. Excellent oral and written skills required. Excellent computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft office suite programs, particularly Excel. Knowledge of Timberline, On-Screen Takeoff and Primavera scheduling desirable.
|Physical Demands and Work Environment:|
Performance of the duties will occasionally require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction work site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock.
