Position Description:

Field Engineer:  Reports to the Project Engineer or Project Superintendent

Assist in obtaining, evaluating, coordinating and distributing the information and authorizations needed to construct the project on time, within budget and to the quality specified.  Assists in coordinating and assessing the progress of work in the field to construct the project on time, within budget and to the quality specified.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Obtain information and approvals for processing of shop drawiangs and submittals; distributes information required for construction to appropriate parties; assists in preparation of a contract items list; ensures that materials and equipment are released for fabrication or manufacture in time to meet construction schedule; prepares estimates for the changes in the work from subcontractors; assists in the preparation of final records for the project; performs other duties assigned.

Tracks the progress of field work for assigned trades; prepares Daily Construction Reports, coordinates work sequence and  locations, track availability of and shipment status of critical equipment and materials; ensures products used are the products approved for use; makes assessments of schedule progress and trade manpower requirements; tracks punch list completion; performs other duties as required.


Four-year college degree required.  Recent Graduates with four years of formal engineering or architectural training or at least three years of building construction experience is preferred.  Knowledge of all general contract, subcontract documents, drawings and specifications.  A basic understanding of accounting and cost control procedures.  Demonstrate management know-how, leadership and interpersonal skills.  Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.  Strong computer skills and a familiarity with Microsoft Office Suites of programs.  Knowledge Prolog Manager and Primavera or Sure Track scheduling desirable.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:  Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

Work Environment:   While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly work on-site at the construction site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock.  The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.
