Position Description:

Perform tasks involving sealing joints between plasterboard or other wallboards to prepare wall surface for painting or papering. Plans gypsum drywall installations, erects metal framing and furring channels for fastening drywall and installs drywall to cover walls, ceilings, soffits, shafts and movable partitions. May perform other duties as necessary or required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Measures marks and cuts metal runners and studs using hand tools or power tools. Using utility knife cuts drywall boards along scribed lines and fastens boards using screws driven by power tools.
  • Cuts openings into boards using keyhole saw or other cutting tools.
  • Mixes sealing compound by hand or with portable electric mixer, and spreads compound over joints using broad knife or spatula.
  • Presses paper tape over joint to embed tape then spreads and smooth cementing material over it.
  • Fills cracks and holes with sealing compound.
  • May install metal molding at corners.
  • May do final finishing involving sanding or texturing.

  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in drywall installation and finishing.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings or other structures, foundations and framing.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, basic geometry, and their applications to carpentry.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective installations of concrete formwork, shoring, anchor bolts, embedded items, water stops and keyways.
  • Knowledge of doors, bathroom partitions and associated hardware.
  • Knowledge of basic building layout and leveling, grades and benchmarks.
  • Basic knowledge of building codes.
  • Using mathematics to solve problems.
  • Ability to accurately measure lengths with ruler or tape.
  • Basic blueprint reading
  • Safe use of power tools such as saws, drills, planes, sanders, routers and grinders.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
